BOP is a one-of-a-kind traditional bebop album that brings together world-class musicians, including Rick Braun, Jeff Lorber, Chuck Loeb, Harvey Mason, Brian Bromberg, Til Bronner, Everette Harp, Eric Marienthal, Brian Dunne, Randy Brecker, and John Pattitucci. BOP was conceptualized and brought to life at the Berks Jazz Festival, held annually in Pennsylvania. The idea to create this album was thought up by Jeff Lorber and Chuck Loeb, who coordinates the Berks Jazz Fest bebop jam sessions. They organized and co-produced this album together and later recorded it at Lorber's studio.
All contributions and artist proceeds will go towards a truly wonderful organization: the Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Foundation. Based in Kansas City, the PKD Foundation is fully committed to discovering treatments and a cure for the disease, which we completely believe in as well. We chose this foundation because many of us feel very strongly about it. I, myself, am a kidney transplant recipient and many members of my family have suffered from PKD, so this project is my way of spreading the word and giving back to a foundation that has done worlds of good for me and many loved ones.
"Grammy-nominated keyboardist/composer/producer, Jeff Lorber, and guitarist, Chuck Loeb team up to co-produce BOP, a one-of-a-kind traditional bebop album that brings together world-class musicians. Jeff Lorber is a kidney transplant recipient who knows all too well the impact PKD can have on a family... Education and support from the PKD community helped Jeff manage the balance between his disease and living the life of a musician... Proceeds from BOP will benefit the PKD Foundation. Jeff Lorber is famous for launching the career of Kenny G and his productions and collaborations with such greats as Dave Koz, Janet Jackson, Lalah Hathaway and Miles Davis. He is one of the most sought after producers and performers in Jazz!" - PKD Foundation.
"5.0 out of 5 stars All-star lineup doesn't disappoint. Amazing all-star lineup of many of the best contemporary jazz & smooth jazz artists on the scene today: Rick Braun, Jeff Lorber, Chuck Loeb, Harvey Mason, Brian Bromberg, Til Bronner, Everette Harp, Eric Marienthal, Brian Dunne, Randy Brecker, and John Pattitucci. If you're a fan of any of them, if you've seen any of them live, you'll love this record. It's a nice set of straight-ahead jazz tunes from Charlie Parker standards like Confirmation, to Monk (Straight No Chaser) to Trane (Giant Steps). It gives us a chance to hear another side of these great contemporary/smooth jazz artists. Everyone gets a chance to shine on at least a couple tracks, though I think Jeff is featured a bit more than the others--and no complaints about that, Jeff is one of the best keyboard players of the past 35 years or so. Really solid playing all around--as you'd expect from this caliber of musician. One last note: These guys came together to support an important cause, and every copy sold supports the Polycistic Kidney Disease Foundation. PKD isn't a household name but it's a serious disease that affects millions, including Jeff. So grab a copy, support a good cause, and enjoy some terrific music from this all-star lineup". - Social Science Professor / Amazon
